Title: Ontario HIV/AIDS Strategy for African, Caribbean and Black Communities 2013-2018
Client: African and Caribbean Council on HIV/AIDS in Ontario (ACCHO)
Date of Completion: September 2013
San Patten researched and wrote the renewed ACB Strategy, which provides a framework for the response to HIV/AIDS in Ontario’s African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities in the areas of prevention, education, policy, health promotion, care, support and research by:
• Guiding the work of agencies, institutions and policy makers working with and for ACB communities
• Promoting community development in response to HIV/AIDS challenges; and
• Identifying research needs, priorities and opportunities to inform the response.
To develop the renewed Strategy, San conducted a comprehensive review of research, program and policy documents. She also conducted extensive consultations with a wide range of stakeholders through interviews, focus groups, and an online survey. All of this input was compiled into a concise and user-friendly framework for action to reduce the impact of HIV in ACB communities.
